Travel Insurance
FAQs & Cancellation Info.

Q.

Is there trip insurance available to cover the need to cancel a trip due to the death of a close family member - not one who is traveling on the particular trip?
A.
Yes, most of our package policies provide coverage for trip cancellation due to a non-traveling family member's death or illness requiring you to stay home.
Q.
What is the latest date I can purchase travel insurance?
A.
You can purchase a policy up to the day before you travel. However, our recommendation is to purchase as soon as possible; it doesn't cost you more and you maximize your benefits. If you wait, you always run the risk that something will happen before you buy your insurance and you won't be covered.
Q.
What is the First Trip Payment Date?
A.
The First Trip Payment Date is the date that you first made a payment for the trip you want to insure. This is the date the check is written not the date it is cashed
Q.
Can I cancel a policy I purchased? Do I incur a penalty?
A.
Most of the companies allow you to review the policy for 3 - 10 days following purchase (varies by company and plan). If you cancel your policy within that 3 - 10 day period, you will receive a full refund except for a small $3 - $5 non-refundable processing fee charged by the company.
Q.
I made a mistake in entering my data, what should I do?
A.
You can call or email us at service@insuremytrip.com, and we will have the changes made to your policy and have a corrected policy sent to you.
Q.
Which policies will protect me if my trip needs to be cancelled because of terriorist activity?
A.
Many of our plans will offer coverage for "Terrorism". Trip cancellation coverage is generally considered to be a "named peril" type policy, meaning that only those perils that are named in the policy are covered. This includes terrorism. Each company includes their own definition of terrorism.
Q.
I am in the military. What if I am called to duty or denied leave?
A.
If your leave is denied because of declared or undeclared war, all policies will exclude that reason. There are several companies that address military leave or being called to duty in one form or another: Access America, Travel Guard - Cruise, Tour & Travel plan, Travel Insured, TravelSafe and Travelex all have "perils" that touch on this.

Q.
What is financial default coverage?
A.
The Financial Default protection benefit is part of the Trip Cancellation/Interruption benefit. Financial default coverage applies if the airline, cruise line, or tour operator goes out of business and you are unable to travel or suffer financial loss. In order for this coverage to apply, coverage must be purchased within 7 - 15 days (depends on company) of the initial deposit. After determining if you qualify for the benefit, some of the plans have 7-14 day waiting period before the benefit would become effective. Additionally, this benefit would be only available if the airline, cruise line or tour operator was not in bankruptcy at the time you purchase your travel insurance policy and in the case of Access America, is listed on their list of approved companies and in the case of Travel Guard, is not on their list of disapproved companies.
